De leukste dag in Haarlem? Misschien wel de dinsdag.
Slenter in alle rust langs bijzondere winkels, bezoek een musea (want die zijn dan allemaal open) en lunch tussen de locals. Dit zijn onze tips!

Finished the first (or second) coffee? From 10 a.m., the doors of Haarlem's museums open. But in which museum will you let yourself be amazed? Plenty of choice!

Teylers Museum

On the Spaarne stands the Teylers Museum, the first and oldest museum in the Netherlands. The collection is dedicated to art and science, a legacy of the wealthy banker and silk manufacturer Pieter Teyler (1702 - 1778). Among other things, you will find instruments, fossils and minerals, coins and books. But also drawings and prints by Dutch and Italian masters. Extra special is the Oval Room which has remained unchanged since its construction in 1784.

Frans Hals Museum

Frans Hals is the most famous Haarlem painter of the Golden Age. His finest works are on display in the museum named after him. In addition to art from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, you will also find modern and new art in the Frans Hals Museum. All art treasures are housed in two wonderful locations in the center: HOF (Groot Heiligland) and HAL (Grote Markt). They are within walking distance of each other. Open from 11 a.m.

Mill the Adriaan

Not to be missed is this octagonal tower mill from 1779. It helps define the city's skyline and is beautifully situated on the Spaarne River. In the mill, you will discover everything about the history and operation of windmills in the Netherlands, and of course that of De Adriaan. At a height of 12 meters, you can walk around the windmill and have a wonderful view. When the windmill is in action, the miller is also present. Open on weekdays from 1 p.m.

meer dan een museum'

Corrie ten Boom House

More than a museum is the Corrie Ten Boom House. It is an "open house" where, as a visitor, you are taken into the history of the Ten Boom family, devoted Christians who dedicated their lives to the service of their fellow human beings. Among other things, the Ten Booms' home was a hiding place during World War II. They provided shelter to Jews fleeing the Nazis. Admission is free.

Lekker lunchen

Heerlijk lang tafelen. Van hartje historisch centrum tot er net iets buiten.

Meneer Frans

Near the Frans Hals Museum you will find Mister Frans. It is located in the monumental building of Van Duivenboden Interieur, so you can also get inspiration for home right away. What's on the menu? Homemade pies, salads, Flammkuchen from Alsace and many more organic goodies. Extra nice here is the large indoor garden. Even on rainy days you'll be comfortable here, thanks to the large umbrellas and patio heater.

Jippies Cat Cafe

Have lunch and cuddle cats in the meantime? Then stroll via the Botermarkt to Jippies Cat Cafe for a soup of the day, a tasty whole grain sandwich or a toasted sandwich. A high-tea is also an option, as is a cup of coffee, of course. Jippies' cats all come from animal shelters and sanctuaries. Good to know: you must book in advance through the website.

De Wereld van Jansje

Another great address is The World of Jansje. Here you will find the cutest gadgets, gifts and books. All sustainable and honest. In the back of the store you can sit down for a cup of coffee or lunch. At Jansje you will be helped in both the store and the lunchroom by well-trained people with disabilities. Nice extras: there is a beautiful courtyard garden.

'De beste winkelstad van Nederland'

Slenteren langs bijzonder winkeltjes
