This bookshop was opened in 1905 in Jacobijnestraat by the great-grandfather of the current director.
Throughout its history, the shop has expanded to include four surrounding buildings and a garden. The departments are connected by small passageways, out of love for the historical value of these buildings. As a result, the atmosphere has remained intimate. Wandering among the books, customers often lose track of time. But the De Vries family's smartwatches certainly do not stand still. ‘It' s in our blood. My great-grandfather was already innovative. He was the first bookseller in the Netherlands to leave his doors open, much to the dismay of the book industry.’
