For over 40 years, the Toneelschuur & Filmschuur in Haarlem has been the leading house of contemporary theatre, dance and film in the Netherlands.

As one of the Netherlands’ pioneering ‘vlakkevloer’ theatres (where the audience sits at the same level as the stage), the Toneelschuur has grown into a theatre where new concepts are explored and innovative work is created and presented. Every year, many of the theatre’s own productions as well as a selection of important subsidised national and international theatre and modern dance productions are staged in the two theatre rooms. A broad programme of the most important films from the art cinema circuit are shown at the Filmschuur art cinema.

The theatre and art cinema are situated at Lange Begijnestraat and were designed by strip cartoonist Joost Swarte and Mecanoo Architecten.

There is a café as well which opens Monday to Saturday from 11:30 A.M. and Sundays from 9:30 A.M.
