Picnics are one of the best summer activities. It gives you a chance to spend time in nature and get together with friends. Haarlem has many places in and around the city where you can settle down on a rug. A number of these beautiful places are listed here.
Haarlemmerhout
The Haarlemmerhout, also known as De Hout, is one of Haarlem's most beloved parks. You can find the park near the center. You can enjoy walking here. In the middle of the park is a farm with deer, among other things. The park also has a cozy tea house where you can go for some food and drinks. De Hout is the perfect place to seek shade during a picnic on a hot day.
The Veerplas
The Veerplas is a nice place with a large lawn and a small beach on a lake on the Amsterdam side of Haarlem. It is a quiet location and therefore perfect for relaxing with baguette and a drink. On the hot summer days, you can even go into the water here to cool off. At the Veerplas you will find catering facility Het Veerkwartier. Here you can sit back and enjoy being outside.
The Kenau Park
The Kenaupark is an oasis in the city. It is located near the station. The park is quiet and a very suitable place for a picnic day. Fill your bag with tasty snacks and refreshing drinks and relax on a rug in the Kenaupark.
The Bet
Just past Overveen and the Kennemerduinen visitor center you will find dune lake Het Wed. Especially with children, this is a nice place to spend a summer day. It is a sheltered beach with a lake where you can swim. From Haarlem it is not as far as the sea and it is a lot less touristy.
Elswout
Landgoed Elswout is located in Overveen. It is a green, open and romantic place where you can really relax. The forest, the many bridges and monuments, such as coach houses, make the place fascinating. There are hiking trails and deer walking around. To keep flora and fauna intact, the entrance indicates which fields you can picnic on a blanket.
Schotersingel
Are you a fan of watching boats? Then go to the Schotersingel. This canal is part of De Bolwerken. The Schotersingel runs from the Kloppersingel to the Kinderhuissingel, which are also nice picnic spots. The canals are popular among people who sail through Haarlem on a hot day. The boats are a nice sight when you enjoy the sun on the side. You will find the canals near the station.
