After restoration, the cathedral is more beautiful than ever. Making your way through spiral staircases, vaults, church bells, the majestic cupola, you climb higher and higher through the towers to the light.
Hovering above the city
A temporary sky-bridge at a height of nearly 60 metres connects the mighty towers. Enjoy a view of the city centre, the copper cupola, the dunes and the sea - these will all seem to be within reach. On a clear day you can see Amsterdam, Alkmaar and Leiden. Unforgettable!
Art temple and museum
60 artists have contributed to the cathedral. The result is a total work of art. The museum in the crypt contains a collection that includes paintings, sculptures, banners and liturgical silverwork of Lodewijk Napoleon. Ask for an audio tour.
Top 5 of the world!
The cathedral, built between 1850 and 1950, is considered one of the top five most important churches in the world - alongside Sagrada Familia, Sacré-Coeur, Westminster Cathedral and the Koekelberg Basilica. The architectural design of Joseph Cuypers includes 12 towers and the most beautiful Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) cupola in the world.
