After previous successful editions of 'The new Bavo in bloom', the Haarlem cathedral is ready for the third edition of this enchanting spectacle.
This time Ingeborg Kemperman – master florist and flower arrangement teacher at WellantCollege in Rijnsburg – is in charge of the flower arrangements in the cathedral. One of the highlights will be the dome filled with a waterfall of flowers. Nearly 50,000 flowers will be used for decorating the chapels, on altars, benches and chandeliers.
Most of the flower arrangements are designed and produced by students as a graduation assignment.
The source of inspiration for this flower event are the many floral themes that the architect Joseph Cuypers (1861-1949) used in the building. The well-known artist Jan Dibbets was also inspired by the architect when designing the new stained-glass windows, as was the artist of the year 2017, Marc Mulder.
